What We Do
The Seattle Nasheed Collective is a community of musicians devoted to the living tradition of Islamic vocal music. We perform nasheeds in their classical form — voice alone, or accompanied by the daff — carrying centuries of spiritual poetry into the present day.
Rooted in the Pacific Northwest, we serve as both performers and educators, sharing this art form with new audiences and teaching those who wish to carry it forward.
Traditional Practice
Our nasheeds follow classical forms passed down through generations — unmodified, unelectrified, and performed with the sincerity the tradition demands.
The Daff
The daff, a frame drum at the heart of nasheed tradition for centuries, provides the rhythmic pulse of devotional song. We teach its technique and spiritual context.

From intimate family gatherings to large community celebrations, we bring the beauty of nasheed to every occasion with reverence and joy.
Our Craft
Learn to play the frame drum central to nasheed tradition. Our instruction covers proper technique, foundational rhythmic patterns, and the spiritual etiquette surrounding this ancient instrument — from beginner through advanced levels.
Develop your voice in service of devotional poetry. We teach classical maqam melodic modes, Arabic pronunciation, breath control, and the art of conveying spiritual meaning — all within the authentic nasheed tradition passed down through generations.

Community Celebration
A joyful evening celebrating with the gathered families of the Eastside Islamic Center. The collective offered a two-hour program of traditional nasheeds, with the daff ensemble providing rhythmic accompaniment throughout the night.
